I didn’t set out to become a photographer.
In fact, in 2001, the word “photographer” wasn’t even part of my vocabulary. I was 22 years old, living far from family, and had just welcomed my second baby into the world. There was no Instagram. No YouTube tutorials. No TikTok hacks. Just me, a film camera I barely knew how to use, and two tiny humans who didn’t have a choice when I asked them to smile one more time.
That was the beginning. Not glamorous. Not planned. But deeply personal.
Then Came the Pageants…
A few years later, we moved back home to Maine. My daughter entered her first pageant, and I used some of my photos for her entry.
She won Photogenic. Then she won it again. And again.
Before I knew it, moms were asking me to take photos of their daughters too. I started photographing more girls I knew—more pageant hopefuls—and what started as a hobby quietly blossomed into a business.
I began offering sessions for families, kids, high school seniors, and weddings. I truly loved all of it. But over time, I noticed something: I felt most alive when I was working one-on-one with girls and women.
